Why are the on sale dates for the UK later than other countries?
I have asked several fabric companies this and have been told it’s due to the shipping routes. Most fabrics are printed in the Asia and from there ship to America. It then takes several more weeks for the fabrics to be shipped across the Atlantic into Europe and then onto the UK. Which means there is normally around 2 months difference in the release dates.
How do you choose which collections to feature on Forever Fabric?
There are so many different fabric collections being released every single week of the year I cannot possibly feature them all. So I choose those that I think will be most popular, the ones I think you’ll want to read about. Obviously there is a little personal bias in there, I will of course be sharing the fabrics I love. But I know we all have vastly different fabric tastes so try to include something for everyone. Whether you love batiks, fabrics for children, bright bold fabrics, subtle blenders, animal fabrics etc there will be something for you.
The other thing that plays a factor in my choice of collections to feature is being able to get suitable images and information about the collection. Some companies don’t release promotional pictures which means I can’t write about them as I know you want to see the fabric and not just read about them.
My favourite designer/fabric manufacturer is not on Forever Fabric. How can I get them added?
I aim to include as many designers and manufacturers as possible but I’m sure it will be an ever growing list. So if your favourite is not on the list use our contact form to send me their details (name and link) and I will aim to get them added to the site (subject to my comments above about picking the collections I think will have wide appeal).
Why do the stockists links not link directly to the collection in the post?
The reason for this is that links change. Shops may move a collection from their coming soon or pre-order section to another section and it can make the links change. If they revamp their site the link can change. So I link to the homepage of each site and you can easily find the fabrics from there and I don’t have to worry about dead links. Also many stores advertise their current offers/discount on their homepage so it’s good to see them before you start shopping.
How do you choose the stockists to feature?
My goal is to feature those who are stocking all, or most of a range so that you should be able to find the particular fabrics you like best. If I link to someone only selling a certain kit or substrate of a collection then I indicate this in brackets after the link so you know don’t waste time looking if it’s not what you want.
Certain shops will appear more frequently in the stockists section, this is because they stock a large range of fabric and tend to take full collections. However I am trying to find at least 1 smaller shop to link to for each country too where I can. I want to support retailers of all sizes.
Why is the focus on quilting fabrics?
Quilting fabrics are more designer lead than dressmaking fabrics. A lot of dressmaking fabrics aren’t branded by designer and often don’t even have names. Personally I love the quality and variety you get with quilting fabrics, I view each fabric print as a work of art.
How can I stay up to date with what you are adding to Forever Fabric?
Any questions you have which are not answered above feel free to use the contact form in the top menu to send me an e-mail.
